What is ADHD?

The 3 core symptoms of Attention Deficit-Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) are hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity. Every person is different and can have primarily inattention, primarily hyperactivity-impulsivity or all 3. Many kids will show signs and symptoms prior to school age however diagnosis and management typically begins when they start school and it affects their learning or their environment. ADHD is a real diagnosis and is not a parenting issue or child misbehavior. Management consist of behavioral modifications, medication or both and is not to change their personality, but rather to help them reach their full potential.

Our Process

Initial Visit
Discussion of concerns, behaviors, school and home life, sleep habits, eating habits, and review any prior diagnoses and testing. We will give you standardized forms to be completed by the primary caregivers, teacher(s) and a self report for older children. This visit can be done via telehealth. Your child should be present for at least part of the evaluation.
If you have forms already completed, we will combine visits 1 and 2.

Discussion of Results
Once the office receives the evaluations, we will meet to discuss the findings from the evaluations and the information gathered from the prior visit. Your provider will discuss a diagnosis of ADHD and any other possible diagnosis in detail, as well as management options, follow up recommendations and if appropriate make recommendations for additional evaluations. Depending on the age and activity level of the child, the caregiver(s) may find it more beneficial to schedule without the child present. This visit can be done via telehealth

Follow up
If a diagnosis of ADHD is found and you are not a member of the practice, you may choose to join our Mental Health Membership or follow up with the provider of your choice.
